Fit for Future: We are a certified bicycle-friendly employer!

Since 2017, the German Cyclists' Federation (Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrrad-Club ADFC) has been awarding the new EU-wide "Bicycle-Friendly Employer" certification. "We check, for example, whether there are enough showers and secure bicycle parking spaces in the company," Andreas Bittner from the ADFC explains the award criteria.

Many improvements that make commuting to work by bike more pleasant have been initiated and implemented collectively in recent times. Now we wanted to honor these measures with the award as a bicycle-friendly employer. That's why we're all the more pleased that we won the "silver medal" at the first attempt. XXX from the ADFC, who carried out the acceptance audit, thinks this was an extraordinary achievement. Janika Kläsener (HR) and the newly appointed cycling coordinator Daniel Löbbe (Product Owner) played a significant role in this.

"Our employees and their health are important to us! That's why we support our employees through various measures to do something for their fitness. All the better that we can also make a direct contribution to reducing traffic congestion and Co2 emissions in the city of Bielefeld by promoting cycling." Thomas Terfloth, CFO of symmedia, sums up.

The promotion of cycling is part of the Fit for Future program, which was launched at the beginning of the year. With Fit for Future, employees are offered various opportunities to develop personally and keep fit during and alongside working hours.

Not only good facilities, such as secure bicycle parking, repair or shower facilities are essential and a matter of course for symmedia. Joint activities that promote cycling are also an integral part. In February 2021, for example, we carried out a company-wide 30-day challenge based on the step.coach app, which also made it possible to collect bicycle kilometers, and the city cycling event at the end of May is already starting. In this way, even occasional cyclists can be motivated to use their bikes more often.

These activities are not only seen as part of the internal Fit for Future program, but also have important team-building, communicative and exercise-motivating aspects in corona and home office times.

In this way, we have not only recognized the opportunities and necessities of promoting mobility within the company, but have actively implemented them. We see the award from the ADFC as confirmation and gives us the impetus to continue along this path.
