Since 2019 symmedia is official umati partner. Together with 17 project partners the VDW (Verein deutscher Werkzeugmaschinenfabriken) developed the communication interface umati (universal machine tool interface). Partners include Chiron, DMG Mori, United Grinding, GF Machining Solutions and many others. The VDW belongs to the OPC Foundation and is therefore part of the OPC UA Community.
With the help of umati, the exchange of information between machines and systems becomes easier and productivity more efficient. A safe and seamless connection between machines and plants is made possible. umati is used not only in Germany, but all over the world. umati is based on an OPC UA Companion Specification and works closely with the ISW of the University of Stuttgart, which has extensive know-how in the field of OPC UA.
There are many new possibilities for production, such as information on machine identification, machine operating status, information on production orders, consumption information, user interaction forecasts and many more.
At the EMO 2019 in Hannover visitors will be shown how umati works in practice. There will be a demonstration of the interface standard and it will be shown how a central consolidation of the data on a demo dashboard can look like. The implementations of the interfaces can be seen at the trade fair stands of the project partners. More than 50 machine tool manufacturers from 7 countries are involved in the demonstration. 100 machines will be networked and show how umati can make machine data usable.
symmedia will also present the first applications of the factory portal at EMO 2019, such as machine networking, trouble shooting, alarming and predictive maintenance.
